There is no one-size-fits-all ways to keep pace with the change affecting the school students and those who educate them.
Learner-centric teaching is an approach to teaching in which teachers do not employ a single teaching method. This approach emphasizes a variety of different types of methods that shifts the role of the teachers from givers of information to facilitators of student learning.
Instructor-centric Learning focuses on what teachers do, and not on what the students learn. This emphasis on what instructors do often leads to students becoming passive learners who do not take responsibility for their own learning. Educators call this traditional method, “teaching.” In contrast, “learner-centric teaching” occurs when instructors focus on student learning.
The 21st century calls for a shift to learner centered classroom from the conventional teacher centered classroom. When many schools across India are in the process of transformation, there is felt a dire need to enhance the skills of our teachers in order deliver their lessons to the utmost satisfaction of their primary customer, the students. These skills when acquired by the teachers will enable student motivation and achievement. The two day workshop on ‘Teaching – Learning Strategies for a Learner Centric Classroom’ aims to enable teachers to explore various teaching -learning strategies through active participation which will help them mould their students into active learners.
