Bosch Diesel Systems Business notches up the envious CII-Exim Bank award for 2009
New Delhi, 17th December: Leading fuel injection systems manufacturing giant Bosch Diesel Systems Business (Bangalore) bagged the most envious CII-EXIM Bank Award for achieving Business Excellence through application of TQM philosophy and tools in its journey towards scaling up performance. By applying the improvement tools the Indian arm of MNC conglomerate Bosch, Bangalore-based Diesel Systems Business was able to streamline various processes and bring about significant changes at supplier, in-house and customer end. It adopted various tools / techniques to local conditions effectively to build and supply products of International standards even to customers in the development nations. The prized honours were presented at the 17th Quality Summit organised by Confederation of Indian Industry-Institute of Quality’s (CII-IQ) with India Inc. pitching in for Innovation through quality improvements across domains. Over 450 industry captains and top thought leaders drawn from diverse sectors are attending the two-day Quality Summit which was inaugurated early today by Member of Planning Commission Mr. Arun Maira. Chairman of CII Institute Quality Mr. K N Shenoy handing over the honours said that CII and EXIM Bank of India joined hands to promote Business Excellence as an integrated management framework and recognize Excellence among Indian companies. He said: “CII Exim Bank Award for Business Excellence recognizes companies that have achieved exemplary levels of business performance through excellent management practices and can be considered as role models to emulate.” The CII-EXIM Bank award is an annual recognition for those companies which have effectively used quality philosophy to bring about business excellence by integrating a set of universally accepted standards and practices in all the three facets of the organization –People, Processes and Performance. The award encourages organisations to strengthen their management systems, practices and capabilities to enhance and sustain their competitiveness to turn into world-class organisations.
This award basically promotes an element of competitiveness and benchmarking that primarily aims at reducing variations and streamlining various processes to achieve a product or service that is high on quality and meets the expectations of various stakeholders. Principal Counsellor and Head of CII-IQ P Girish said that it is paramount for every company to ingrain the element of quality in every process that they initiate. He said that “at this hour only Business Excellence will facilitate companies to quickly overcome hurdles which in turn help in pruning costs thereby improving bottomline and the quality of products and services that are rolled out of the system for end customers.”
This year several top companies vied for the coveted honour awarded annually by CII-IQ. The competition is broadly categorized under three segments –Large Business Organisations, Operating Units of LBOs and SMBs. The assessment process is very rigorous and comprehensive. Participating in the Award in itself is a testimony that the said ‘business entity’ has achieved a certain level of International quality benchmarking. It is a great learning experience and a good management tool for the manager to obtain a comprehensive outlook of business in all its facets. Though the Award was instituted 16 years ago (1994) until now only seven companies have bagged this high-ranking Award. This indicates how tough the assessment process is and the number of layers it has to pass through to meet CII’s quality standards. The chosen few include PSUs majors and private business giants.
The jury members –Men of eminence from top corporate houses who themselves propagate business excellence in their own firms- had a tough time zeroing on for the top honours. Broad criteria for the honours include –Commendation for Staying committed to Excel, Commendation for Significant achievement, Prize and Award. Bagging the envious Award a top functionary of Bosch Diesel Systems Business, Mr. Sudhir Hegde said that “It has always been an unbearable thought to me that someone could inspect one of my products and find it inferior in any way. For that reason, I have constantly tried to deliver only products which withstand the closest scrutiny –products which prove themselves superior in every respect. Quality has been the bedrock of growth and popularity of our company for long”. |
